Vice President of Business Development and Marketing

We are searching for a VP of Business Development and Marketing with 10-15 years of Architecture industry experience. The candidate will be responsible for business development strategy, marketing, branding, communications. Develops public relations infrastructure and positions the firm for growth and profitability. Directs business development efforts, develops and implements sales and marketing programs, and cultivates potential business prospects. 

Essential Job Functions Include:
  • Providing leadership for the maintenance of marketing systems/records and coordinate the marketing team.
  • Direct and coordinate the firm’s business development efforts. 
  • Develop, implement and maintain effective sales and other programs that provide maximum exposure to new business prospects with the firm's established goals and objectives.   
  • Develop and implement promotional programs and plans; cultivate and develop potential business prospects; assist marketing coordinator in the preparation of proposals, presentations and qualification packages.   
  • Develop comprehensive annual business and marketing plans, including targets and metrics, based on strategic planning by principals. 
  • Develop marketing strategies and serve as primary strategy advisor to the principals. 
  • Ensure alignment of capture plans with corporate strategies.
  • Foster communication between individuals to ensure information distribution and resource utilization are capitalizing on the strengths of the firm. 
  • Maximize marketing effectiveness and efficiency by gathering and disseminating best practices throughout the organization. 
  • Monitor and control firm wide marketing activities, expenses, results, and other metrics; perform assessments on business acquisition performance and effectiveness. 
  • Conduct strategic research in support of the firm’s designated market sectors and explore new growth markets. 
  • Develop and implement strategies to expand existing market penetration and enter new markets. 
  • Perform benchmarking in designated markets, including competition, strategic intelligence, and market and industry trends.  Supervise the marketing support and business development staff. 
  • Support the growth of those involved in business acquisition by mentoring and coaching. 
  • Approve budgets and allocate funds for target client conferences, printed material, etc. where the strategy and goals reflect the firm’s vision and strategic position. 
  • Lead all go/no-go decisions; assess each potential pursuit in regard to its ability to meet the firm’s strategic positioning and goals. Work with appropriate team members to create and execute a winning strategy for all key chases; ensure teams have identified the appropriate benefits and differentiators.
  • Ensure all materials are appropriately focused on client benefits and differentiators, while consistent with the firm’s promotional identity. 

Competencies:  
  • Thorough understanding of A/E/C industry terminology and procedures.
  • Professional demeanor that enables the person to interact with the highest levels both inside and outside the firm. 
  • Excellent leadership/managerial and mentoring/teaching skills. 
  • Proficiency in InDesign, Photoshop, Adobe Suite, Microsoft Suite. 
  • Oral and written communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Persistent follow through in a consistent manner.  
  • Member of SMPS preferred but not required. 

Job Requirements:
  • BS in Marketing or other related field required.
  • 10-15 years of experience in business development in the Architecture industry.
